TWO FRIENDS, A BIG IDEA, AND A LOT OF FAITH
This whole thing started over a glass (or two) of whiskey when Michael had a revelation.
What if we could create a place that brought people together over a drink, a story,
and an authentic human experience? Better yet, what if that place made world-class spirits
that married centuries of tradition with the best of modern science?
We heard our calling, and nearly three years later, here we are. Michael brought his
seven years of distilling experience (don’t ask where he’s been distilling), and our wives and friends have
been amazing in helping us make it all happen.
A HERITAGE OF COMMUNITY
Our journey was inspired by the heritage of distilling. The still was once a
community gathering place. A place that brought people together,
where no hand was without a drink and no neighbor was without a story to share. We
set out to revive this heritage. To create a distillery that brings people together to share
great stories and authentic craft spirits.
TRADITION MEETS SCIENCE
We believe that the best things are born from doing them for the right reasons. The
distillery was originally a stable for the Smith Brothers Steam Bakery. In the late 1800s,
the horses in our building delivered bread all around Kansas City. We restored the old
beauty of this historic building and consulted 18th-century French texts to develop our
distilling process. Today, our craft spirits are a result of centuries of traditional distilling
methods married with the latest in modern organic chemistry.
FROM THE GROUND UP
The best spirits begin with the highest-quality grain. No commodity grain here. No factory-sourced spirits.
Our process begins on a small family farm in Wellsville, KS, with a soft red wheat
specifically selected and grown to make a rich, smooth, remarkable spirit.
It’s a celebration of the tradition of making spirits from the ground up, from seed to sip.
It also gives us total control over what goes into our spirits – every detail matters.
THE SPIRIT OF KANSAS CITY
Once a ghost town between Midtown and Downtown, the Kansas City
Crossroads is now the hub of the city’s creative and pioneering spirit.
Aptly named the Arts District, the Crossroads is teeming with artists;
painters and sculptors, but also artists who craft chocolate, coffee, beer, wine,
and, of course, spirits. Together, we’re making the Crossroads a place of creation.
That is why we are here: to celebrate them. To bring people together – for milestones,
memories, experiences – around great craft spirits.
A TOAST OF GOODWILL
People often ask us who we are. Are we our family of authentic craft spirits –
distilled, aged, and bottled in The Heartland? Are we the spirited team
orchestrating the shiny equipment of our distillery like classical
conductors? Are we the event space where memories are made, or the tasting
room where stories are shared? The truth is, we’re all of that. And whoever you
are, whether you come from near or far, whether you come to listen or to tell,
you are welcome here. Cheers.
