Our team here at Lifted Spirits loves to play with new cocktail recipes and share them with our friends. Every month, we hold a free Spirit Class to share tips and techniques on how to craft cocktails. For the August class, we chose Spirited Sangria, using wine from our neighbors, KC Wineworks, and our Lifted Spirits vodka and gin.
As summer draws to a close, we are savoring these last weeks of warm weather. There is still plenty of time to enjoy sitting on patios and backyard barbeques with friends. Although we love everything summer, we can’t help but get excited for the upcoming season change to fall. Sangria is fantastic for entertaining a large group of people. Not only does it allow you prep ahead of time, but it does not require a lot of work when it comes to serving. With sangria, you can be as creative as you want to be with the ingredients and garnishes, or keep it simple. A great sangria recipe is handy to have in your back pocket, but we invite you to have some fun creating your own recipe as well!
For this Spirit Lesson, we came up with two unique sangria recipes: a summery white sangria with our Bright Gin, and a fall-flavored red sangria with our Vodka.
Cucumber & Watermelon Gin Sangria
Our cucumber & watermelon gin sangria is perfect for the remaining days of summer. Our Bright Gin pairs perfectly with cucumbers and mint and the watermelon puree provides some sweetness and the pink color to the mix.
- 1 bottle (750 mL) KC Wineworks Crossroads White
- 1 1/2 cup Lifted Spirits Bright Gin
- 1 cup Watermelon puree
- ¾ cup Simple syrup
- ½ Sliced cucumber
- 2 limes, squeezed
- 10 mint leaves
Instructions: Mix all ingredients into a pitcher. Chill for at least 4 hours. Strain cucumber, mint, limes and watermelon pulp. Serve over ice with mint and cucumber garnish. Makes 10-12 servings.
Cut watermelon into small chunks and puree in a blender. Or, Alton Brown has a great way to puree a watermelon with an immersion blender.
Fall Spice Vodka Sangria
Our Fall Spice Sangria is a perfect cocktail for your fall gatherings. We combine all the flavors one would associate with fall in a simple syrup, which gives the sangria both a touch of sweetness and a touch of spice. The apples also add to the sweetness and provide not only flavor but also a festive (and easy!) garnish.
- 1 bottle KC Wineworks Crossroads Red
- 1 cup Lifted Spirits Vodka
- ½ cup Spiced Simple syrup
- ½ cup Apple juice
- 2 apples, chopped
Instructions: Mix all ingredients together and chill for at least 4 hours. Serve over ice.
Spiced Simple syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1/8 Tsp ground ginger
- 1/8 Tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 Tsp ground clove
- 1/8 Tsp allspice
Bring water to a boil. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Reduce heat to low and add spices. Let simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and store in the refrigerator.
We hope you enjoy both of these sangria recipes and have fun creating your own too! We’d love to see your creations too! Send us a pic of your festive sangria!
